My journey to becoming a copywriter and content strategist was not exactly straightforward. I always had a love for writing, even from a young age, writing (sometimes long-winded) stories for assignments or fun. I attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, graduating with my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a certification in Secondary Education. Unfortunately, many teachers were being laid off throughout the area when I graduated, so I decided to try my talents elsewhere.

My first position out of college was with STLtoday.com. Working with a prominent newspaper (St. Louis Post-Dispatch) was an exciting prospect. I took charge of their couponing program, eventually taking over copywriting for the daily deals we offered online. From there, I began working in advertising, helping fulfill and optimize digital marketing campaigns for clients, gaining exposure to marketing practices and learning about what works and what doesn’t. I was still doing some copywriting, but not near as much as what I had before. However, I was quick to offer up my expertise whenever it was needed, whether it was crafting a professional email or making a quick turnaround on a sponsored article.

Eventually, all digital team members moved to our internal digital agency, Amplified Digital. Here, I became our sole digital copywriter, even as the agency expanded to most of the other markets across Lee Enterprises. As we charted new territory, I developed website copy documents that could be provided to the web development team for implementation. I gave recommendations for content structure and layout, keeping in mind the story we were conveying to the site visitors. I worked with STLtoday.com and Amplified Digital for almost 12 years until I decided to pursue other opportunities and began working for Timmermann Group.

At Timmermann Group, I have been able to expand my knowledge of content, digging deeper into SEO, UX, and even development. In addition to writing for websites, blogs, and other content projects, I have gained experience creating sitemaps, wireframes, and light development work in WordPress, including Elementor.

Who I Am

Outside of work, I’m a mother of two boys, animal lover, bird watcher, sports enthusiast (let’s go, STL City SC!), and crafter. I love finding new ways to explore my creativity, whether it’s writing, playing an instrument, painting, sewing, knitting, or making custom decals with my Cricut.
